Other: Tattoo's in the workplace

Tonight while browsing Facebook, I came across a site: Tattoo acceptance in the workplace .  Ok, so I don't have tats, but I don't begrudge anyone for getting them either.  However, I am a firm believer in the concept of everything in life having a consequence, good or bad.  This is a classic place to explore this belief of mine.

Enter lil miss Stephanie Marie Towne of Rhinelander, WI.  She (was) a lifeguard at the local YMCA.  Good job for your typical teenaged girl.  Then she went and did this:

She's surprised she got fired.  Her boss fired her for taking time off work to get this ink.  Her comment:

"I work at a YMCA as a lifeguard and I also do swim lessons...but now I can't do swim lessons anymore because my boss got mad that I took off of work to get my tattoo. Talk about discrimination."

Ok dear heart, it's teachable moment time, so listen up.

YOU'RE A LIFEGUARD AT THE FUCKING YMCA.  AT LEAST, YOU WERE.  BUT YOU DECIDED THAT SCARRING YOUR BODY WAS MORE IMPORTANT.  THAT'LL LOOK SO HOT ON YOU AT AGE 60.  YOU PEOPLE IN WISCONSIN REALLY ARE PRETTY FUCKING STUPID.

People, if you want ink, knock yourselves out.  But understand, right or wrong, you will be judged.  This poor girl will now be judged as someone who enjoys facials, trains & bukkake.  Enjoy!  :)

StoneSour.

  1. Our society does have a damned big problem with judging....

  2. Hey Azoo, you're correct. Right or wrong, it is what it is. It's the framework in which our society exists.

  3. If my daughter got a tattoo like that I'd rip off her head!

  4. They should know the consequences of getting ink. One of my friends is in modeling (most likely will be was in) and has two tats. Tats are frowned upon in modeling from what I understand. So it'll come back to bite her at some point

  5. It's all about the ink to get the pink.

  6. Some people just want to do whatever they want and take no responsibility for that

  7. Although everyone has the right to get a tattoo, I believe the employer has the right to choose whether or not someone can work for them if "dey inkd up"

  8. @Biscuit: It exists because we, as individuals, are far too comfortable with conforming than confronting. Even when the individual TRULY feels that the group is wrong, they are quite likely to simply go along with the group to avoid confrontation or hope that the "group knows what it is doing".

Past this, it is an excuse to not be responsible for our actions.

  9. to be fair, theres enough people that would dislike the tattoo to warrant a word from her boss. maybe not a fireing but at least having to cover up. though that depends on what the company policy states. some have it in their policy to not get these things

  10. well, if she's showing skin, then it's obviously a possible dress code violation, but still, cool ink :]

  13. Yeah, I got a tattoo of my ex-wife. And my other ex-wife. They're both very, very permanent. I wish I'd known how stupid tattoos are back in those days..

  14. A tattoo is a personal choice you can have whatever you want, its a statement

If you chose an unsuitable one its your own fault
